We have now compiled our new class list for over the Summer months. A wide variety of projects and techniques have been included and we hope we can tempt you to join us.
Most of the workshops take place on Saturdays or Wednesdays. However, if any of the dates are not suitable we may be able to accomodate you at an alternative time. Just call us to discuss.
The course titles and descriptions speak for themselves but more details are available from the shop. We will be happy to help.
WORKSHOPS AND CLASSES AT JUST QUILTING
Saturday 19 May – Reversible Bag £20
A simple, elegant bag. Mix and match fabrics to get two bags out of one.
Saturday 26 May – Stitchery Roll £20
Another chance to make this useful stitchery storage roll. You will need to complete the stitchery in advance of the class. The stitchery pattern will be provided when you book your place on the course.
Saturday 2 June – Jubilee Class £20
Join us as we celebrate the jubilee festivities. Projects include a Union Jack pillow and tea-cosy, bunting and lots more.
Saturday 9 June - Free-motion Machine Quilting with Carol Parker £25
We are very pleased to welcome Carol Parker to Just Quilting. She will be teaching her own method of quilting using free-form and stencil techniques. Book quickly as places are limited.
Saturday 16 June & 30 June – The All-ways Bag with Doreen Hann £20
This class will be in two halves from 12.30 – 4.00pm on both days.
This is a fabulous bag made up of elongated hexagons. You will also get ideas to make it in many different ways hence, the All-Ways Bag!
Saturday 23 June - UFO Day
Another chance to catch your breath and finish off a few projects.
Saturday 7 July – Celtic Knot Class with Carol Parker £25
Carol will be teaching this lovely style using bias-binding appliqué.
Saturday 14 July – Miniature Folded patchwork £20
Learn this easy technique to create a lovely bag or sewing basket. This class is a great scrap buster!
Saturday 21 July – Romantic Hearts quilt £20
Another chance to make this beautiful quilt. We have changed to format of this to make a quicker project. Mix and match lovely fabrics to make this unusual quilt using cut-out 3-d hearts.
Wednesday 25 July – Folded Pinwheels £12.50
This will be a half-day class 9.30 – 1pm.
A new take on traditional pinwheels. This technique creates a 3-d effect. A perfect style for small quilts or baby quilts.
Saturday 28 July – Christmas in July £22
This will be the first of our traditional Christmas workshops. Join us amongst the decorations, fairy lights, mince pies to make a variety of small projects which are sure to be ready for Christmas. A popular workshop. Book early!
Wednesday 1 August – Quilt-As-You-Go £20
Make two quilts in one. This method creates a fully reversible quilt. Choose from two different styles.
Saturday 4 August – Beginners Crazy Patchwork £20
On this class you will make a block in crazy patchwork style. You will the try out lots of interesting embroidery stitches to embellish your work.
Wednesday 8 August – Beginners Quilt – Split 9-patch £20
Learn basic quilting techniques to produce a lovely quilt. This project can be made to any size. Explore the possibilities of using a simple block to create many effects.
Saturday 11 August – Christmas In August £22
Another Christmas workshop. Choose from a variety of small projects.
Wednesday 15 August – Introduction to Applique £20
This workshop will introduce you to various styles of appliqué. We will cover quick appliqué using heat and bond, freezer-paper method and needleturn appliqué.
Saturday 25 August – Introduction to Stitchery £20
Stitchery is becoming very popular in quilt making. Learn how to get the best results from your stitcheries. We will also cover designing your own stitchery.
Saturday 1 September – Beginners Day £20
A ‘taster’ day to enable you to try out basic patchwork and quilting techniques.
Saturday 8 September – New York Beauty £22
Learn the basics of this famous block to create a pillow or develop it into a small quilt. A good opportunity to use up stash fabrics.
Saturday 15 September – Tipsy Topsy Log- cabin £22
Forget precision! These blocks have attitude! Use lots of colour to make a stunning piece. This project can be made to any size.

Our fabulous stitchers at Just Quilting were featured this week in Newcastle and North East local newspaper, Evening Chronicle. A group of regulars at Just Quilting, led by Margaret Convery, created twenty stunning children’s quilts which were donated to the children’s heart unit at Freeman Hospital.
We’re very proud of their hard work and dedication and thank you to Margaret for suggesting such a rewarding project for us to be a part of.

The days are growing shorter and the autumnal weather is finally upon us. We’ve been busy with seasonal workshops and kitting up patterns on request.
We have some lovely arrivals the weeks. The first is bolts, Jelly Rolls and Charm Packs of Etchings by 3 Sisters for Moda. This collection is lovely and fresh.
Followed by the gorgeous European Taupe by Kinkame.
Our Doreen has been working on a project of a little while. Perhaps you can’t tell from the photo but this crest has been appliquéd onto the background fabric. Doreen is one of the most patient quilt makers we know. She has put several hours into this particular project. We believe the plan is to add borders to this piece and we hope to be able to bring you another progress report in the near future. Well Done Doreen, keep up the great work.
And finally, Lucie’s Mystery Quilt 2011 is finished. The instructions for the last quarter is available to collect now. Here’s a photo of the final result.

Autumn is upon us and we have kicked off the new season of workshops. We’re starting another Beginner’s Sampler Class this Saturday and there are one or two places left. This class will teach the beginner from start to end how to make a sampler quilt. These workshops are very popular as we teach all the skills to put you on the right road to success.
On October 8th we are holding a hand quilting workshop. If you have never done any hand quilting this is the time to start. Lucie will be showing you how to get started.
And the following week, October 15th, Lucie will be doing the long awaited Part II Free Motion Quilting. If you’ve taken Part I Free Motion Quilting and you have enjoyed it, you will enjoy this next part just as much. Lucie has a few tricks up her sleeve so this class is not to be missed! Get yourself booked in soon to avoid disappointment.
On October 22nd there will be a Chisel Star quilt workshop. This is an excellent workshop as the Chisel shapes are pre-cut on the Go! Fabric cutter. The Chisel shape makes a lovely block and as all the pieces are die cut they will be precise hence making piecing a breeze.
We’ve taken delivery of some very nice fabrics this past week. The first is Blossoming by Kathy Davis for Free Spirit in two colour ways.
This one is Tudor Lane by Denise Sheehan of A Graceful Stitch “Catherine” by Lecien.
And then we have Tea Cakes by Verna Mosquera for Free Spirit.
And last but not least, Cielle by Galgarollo by Lecien.
All these new fabrics are brilliant. And there’s more expected soon!
