WHAT’S NEW THIS WEEK

The weather is quite wintry so we’re piling on the warm clothes. The kettle is always on. So come in and visit to see what’s new around the shop.

For anyone who has been waiting for the Japanese Woven Bag kits, you’ll be very happy as they are ready but they’re going fast.

We have heard from Lucie the Happy Quilter about her experience with the GO! Fabric Cutter. So here’s what she had to say about it:

“I have finally finished piecing the quilt which I cut with the GO! Fabric Cutter at Just Quilting last Saturday. And this is my report. I found the GO! Cutter very easy to use. I was able to cut six layers of fabric at one time which certainly makes the job less time consuming. I especially like the fact that the GO! trims the points of the triangles helping to reduce the bulk before they’re even sewn together. The shapes are accurate and fit together beautifully. I used four different shapes of cutters in order to cut this quilt and the only bit of the quilt that I was not able to use the GO! was for the outer border which was 5” strips. It took me approximately 45 minutes to cut the shapes to piece a 56” quilt. One of the cutters I used was the 2-1/2” strip cutter. The strip cutter is amazing. As we are able to cut six layers of fabric or three strips WOF doubled over, it means that you can cut nine jelly roll type strips in one pass. Cutting strips with a rotary cutter is boring but not with the GO!. I found the GO! fun to use and I have to say that if I didn’t already have a similar cutter made by the same company in my sewing room at the moment, I would have placed an order for one on the spot last Saturday. Having said that I am seriously considering placing on order for the GO! baby which was recently released. I do a fair bit of appliqué work and I think the baby version would be well used in my work. Perhaps when Just Quilting receives the GO! baby they will let me have a trial. I would like to take this opportunity to thank Carol and her ladies for making me feel very welcome while I was doing my trial run on the GO! Cutter. Keep up the good work ladies.”

So if you are the least bit curious about the GO! Cutter pop in for a demo and a chat. Carol and her ladies are quite knowledgeable about how it all works.

We have a lovely book recommendation this week. It’s Miss Rosie’s Spice of Life Quilts by Carrie L. Nelson. The quilt patterns in this book are absolutely to die for. Carrie really does have the knack of combining different blocks together that work beautifully. So if you’re thinking about treating yourself to a book this cold wintry week this is the must have book of the week.

We have some lovely Dandelion Designs by Mandy Shaw Christmassy patterns. Mandy’s patterns are absolutely delightful. We’ve also got some fantastic new kits by Cinderberry Stitches and Rosalie Quinlan.

Here’s a few recommendations for Christmas presents for the quilt makers in your life. How about a Fancy Frame Ruler by June Tailor.

Or perhaps the Clover Yo-Yo Maker would be more useful. The Yo-Yo Maker would be perfect to start your grandchild on the road to crafting.
